Grounding is very similar to Shielding in most respects.
While you begin by envisioning the sphere or ball of light above you as you would with Shielding, the difference here is that rather than being surrounded by the light, you feel the light flow into and through you.
The light and feelings of peacefulness it brings continues to flow out of your body and back into the earth. At that point there is a pronouncement (again some are more specific than others) that you’ve released all of the excess energy. You can be calm and peaceful because you’re fully grounded.
When using this method, the steps are basically repeated upon departure. Feeling the energy leave your body and flow back into the earth, while announcing that nothing is welcome to leave with you.
While there is no bubble to come between you and whatever entities may be present, some feel as though Grounding can affect your focus and concentration.
